The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has disclosed that it would conduct bye- election into the vacant Councillorship seat in Ward C (Owode Orile Ward) in Bariga Local Council Development Area of the State on Tuesday, 18th December, 2018.

This revelation was made today during the visit of members of the Commission to the two Baales in the affected ward to solicit their support and cooperation in ensuring peaceful conduct of the election.

Speaking on behalf of the Commission, a member of the Commission, Chief ( Mrs) Toyin Ibrahim- Famakinwa, explained that the Commission decided to visit the traditional rulers in view of their enormous influence over their subjects, urging that the rulers should, therefore, assist the Commission to appeal to the people in the area to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.

She, however, warned that the Commission would not condone any act of lawlessness that could cause a breach of the peace and threaten the credibility of the electoral process.

While responding to the request of the Commission, the traditional rulers expressed appreciation to the Commission for appreciating the role of traditional institution in ensuring peaceful coexistence among their subjects.

They, therefore, pledged to prevail on residents in their communities to be law abiding and shun all acts that could impede the electoral process and cause disharmony and violence.

The two Baales visited are High Chief Olakunle Olusegun Aromire, Baale of Owode Orile and High Chief Michael Lopez, Baale of Irepodun.

The Councillorship bye-election is to be conducted by the Commission following the death of Mr. Solomon Awokoya who was the Councillor representing the Ward before his demise.

Meanwhile, a Stakeholders’ meeting where issues relating to the conduct of the election would be discussed will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28.
